PROJECT NAME

The Vista Heights Development

The Vista Heights Development is a prime example of how AXA Engineers meticulously address large-scale residential projects, particularly those with demanding topographical and infrastructural challenges. Nestled in Rowan County, North Carolina, this expansive 124-acre development features extensive road networks and distant ponds, necessitating a sophisticated and effective stormwater drainage system. The project’s success hinges on precise planning, innovative engineering solutions, and maintaining a balance of cut and fill volumes.

Project Vision and Challenges

The vision for The Vista Heights Development is to create a harmonious residential community that seamlessly blends modern infrastructure with the natural environment. However, the project presents significant challenges due to the extensive road lengths and the depth at which stormwater pipes must be buried.

Complex Stormwater Drainage Design

The storm pipes need to be buried quite deep. This depth can potentially be lower than the water surface elevation (WSE) in the Stormwater Control Measures (SCM), complicating natural water outflow.

Challenge 1

Balancing Cut and Fill Volumes

Ensuring the balance of cut and fill volumes across the extensive project site is critical to maintaining structural integrity and cost-efficiency.

Challenge 2
Strategic Solutions

To effectively address these challenges, AXA Engineers has implemented innovative and strategic solutions:

1

Adjusting Road Profiles for Effective Drainage

To ensure that the burial depth of the stormwater pipes does not fall below the water surface elevation (WSE) in the ponds, road profiles will be adjusted based on the stormwater system requirements. This adjustment ensures that water from the SCM can flow out naturally, preventing waterlogging and promoting efficient drainage throughout the development.

2

Balancing Cut and Fill Volumes

Given the project’s significant scale, achieving a balance of cut and fill volumes is essential. By adjusting roadway profiles and making necessary layout changes, we ensure that the excavation and fill processes are optimized. This approach not only maintains the structural integrity of the site but also enhances cost-efficiency and environmental sustainability.
